  4.                           Chapter 7. Feast of Tabernacles.
  5.  
  6. 1.   Jesus urged to go to the Feast of Tabernacles.  John 7:1-13
  7.      The Jews' hatred of Him.
  8.      His brethren's unbelief in Him.
  9.      Their words were the voice of Satan urging Him to move out of
  10.      His Father's will in order to vindicate Himself.
  11.      However Jesus moved in the will of His Father and had gone up
  12.      to the feast secretly.
  13.      The world at enmity with the Lord Jesus. v. 7.
  14.      Divided opinion concerning Him. v. 12-13.

  16. 2.   Jesus at the Feast of Tabernacles.  John 7:14-53.
  17.      This Feast took place in the 7th month, the 15th to the 21st.
  18.      Lev. 23:33-44.
  19.      Deut. 16:13-17.  This was the feast of ingathering when
  20.      Israel rejoiced before the Lord and dwelt in booths made of
  21.      the boughs and branches of trees.  There were three feasts at
  22.      which all males were to be present, i.e. Passover, Pentecost,
  23.      and Tabernacles.  Ex. 23:14-16, 34:22-33.  Two have been
  24.      fulfilled and the one remaining feast, that is the Feast of
  25.      Tabernacles will be fulfilled in the end of this age, in the
  26.      great revival and ingathering of the last days!

  28.      a.   Christ's teaching is from the Father. v. 14-19
  29.           A willing heart required. v. 17.    Then we shall know!
  30.  
  31.      b.   Opposition to Jesus. v. 19-36.
  32.           Jesus declared that He came from God, was sent by God,
  33.           and would return to  God.
  34.           Satan filled the hearts of the people with hatred toward
  35.           Christ, until they desired to kill Him.
  36.  
  37.      c.   The Great Prophecy concerning the Gift of the Spirit.
  38.           John 7:37-39.  The last day of the feast was the eighth
  39.           day.  Lev. 23:36.  Num. 29:35.  On this day, at the hour
  40.           of the morning sacrifice, water from the pool of Siloam
  41.           was brought in a golden pitcher by the priest accompanied
  42.           by a joyous procession of music.  When the water was
  43.           poured at the altar great shouts of praise burst from the
  44.           multitude of worshippers and they sang the "Hallel"
  45.           (Psalms 113-118).  This was indeed a joyous feast. (Cf.
  46.           Isa. 12:3, 55:1).  At this moment Jesus stood and cried,
  47.           "If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink!". He
  48.           claimed to be the fulfillment of this ceremony.  He
  49.           claimed to be the source of living water! He must
  50.           therefore be the Son of God, Deity incarnate. This was
  51.           fulfilled on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4) when the
  52.           Holy Ghost was given after Jesus was glorified.  v. 39.
  53.           The Rock must be smitten at Calvary before the living
  54.           waters of the Spirit could pour forth. (Ex. 17:6).
  55.           The greater fulfillment of this prophecy will be in the
  56.           end of this age in the last day outpouring of the Holy
  57.           Spirit.  The Feast of Tabernacles is the feast of
  58.           ingathering and rejoicing!

  60.      d.   The Results. v. 40-53.
  61.           Many said, "This is that Prophet." (Deut. 18:15,18).
  62.           Others said, "This is the Christ." Some did not believe.
  63.           The officers were afraid to take Him.
  64.  
  65.           The Pharisees and some of the people stumbled because of
  66.           prejudice and a partial knowledge of prophecy.
  67.  
  68.           Nicodemus took his stand for Christ in the face of great
  69.           opposition.
  70.           "Every man went to his own house"  i.e. no longer dwelt
  71.           in booths.
  72.  
  73.           Instead of returning from this feast with great joy, they
  74.           went home with hate and malice toward the Son of God!
  75.  
  76.           The Eternal Word is the Giver of the holy Ghost.
